About Michael G Jarman

Michael is a native of North Carolina and spent most of his life in his hometown of Jacksonville.  In 2013, due to a new position in State government, he and his wife, Ana Maria, moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. Then after a year, he made the difficult decision to retire from 34 years of State service.

After retiring in 2014, Michael entered university as a part-time student to study the Arabic language - a long held passion.  Also, he began to rekindle his interest in art, especially pastel painting.

In spite of a lifetime interest in art, Michael is a self-taught painter who never received formal training. He has been influenced by many contemporary artists, but also by the great pastel master, Degas.  But he believes his style is always evolving.  And he continually looks for different and new ways by which to approach his subject.

Michael admits that, in the end, his talent is a gift from God, and he is happy that he has been entrusted with a gift that he can share with others.  It is his sincerest desire that all who view his paintings find something that interests or moves them in a personal way.

Michael is a member of the North Carolina Pastel Society.  He recently won a merit award for his painting, "Sunset in Winter" in the 2016 North Carolina Statewide Pastel Exhibition in Hickory.
